The Sol Plaatje University (SPU) Great Hall competition, which concluded in 2021, was a prestigious two-stage competition to design a landmark graduation and ceremonial hall on the University's North Campus. The brief sought an iconic, context-responsive building that fosters a 24/7 learning culture while serving as a “living archive” of collective memory, rooted in Kimberley’s history, landscape, and social fabric. Designs were required to respond to Kimberley’s unique history and landscape, resulting in innovative proposals that combine contemporary architecture with strong regional identity and social engagement.
